About the Artist
Allison Gordon grew up in the Midwest. She spent several years in Colorado, where she studied English and Art, and many years in North Carolina.
Shortly after completing her degree, she dealt with both the loss of a close family member and the continued healing from a rough childhood. To try to come to terms with the swirl of emotions inside of her, she began to paint swirls onto a canvas. She strove to convey the unpredictability of this time by using heavy strokes, deep charcoal lines, and brightly-colored streaks. This evolved into her method of painting scenes that converge nature and abstraction. Now, she starts most paintings with swirls as a way to get in touch with her creativity, and those swirls signify a sense of hope. The idea of hope has helped her survive a great deal in her life and continues to inspire her work.
Allison's work has been displayed throughout Colorado and North Carolina—two of her favorite places.
